Engine won't start - error code B1087-93 (2F)

Got to help a friend with his 2010 3.0 L Discovery 4. Suddenly the car won't start. When you press the brake pedal and press the start button the lights in the center console go off and nothing happens. New and charged battery in place. Checked with the IID and got the following:

Could not find a description of B1087-93. LIN bus A related. Since all glow plugs show on the scan as well, it most be a common problem. I checked the wiring diagrams and the glow plugs are controlled via the junction box, each has its own relay powered via a common fuse.

If the conditions for engine start are met, gearshifter in P, brake pedal depressed and start button pushed the ECU should activate the starter motor. But since it is - 5 degrees here the glow plugs need to do the preheating first. I guess that if these do not work that the ECU might refuse to send the crank signal?

Ok thanks! Where did you found the description of the error code? I presume that Generator stands for dynamo and will check its connections.

the alternator has the LIN bus connection. Only 1 pin. Measured that against C0658L-30 of the Engine ECU behind the main battery and measured 7 Ohms. Thought that could not be right and used a new wire from the ECU pin 30 to the alternator contact. However still no start. Will try to update the Engine ECU to see if it is a software thing.

The solution was.... the LIN wire between the ECU and the alternator. Probably bad contact. Made new wire from ECU to the LIN contact at the back side of the alternator, cleared the faults and Discovery started again.

After replacing the LIN cable the engine started once but then same errors came back. The real problem was that the engine had a bad earth connection. Put a jump cable on the alternator housing and on the ground connection of the battery and the D4 started again and again. Will now install a new earth cable between the housing of the startmotor and chassis ground.
