just changed the thermostat.
-3 C outside, engine warms hardly up to 73C and drops to 62C if i turn the heat up to max.

Any suggestions?

maybe the engine temperature sensor is just bot doinh its job right?

Are you possibly looking for a problem that doesn’t exist? Is the temperature gauge on the dash showing it’s within normal operating range? I’m in Western Australia and I can barely get mine to over 60 degrees when idling from cold on a 30 degree day. Even during a drive it barely went to 80 degrees. It only seems to get high when I’m towing.
I’m just suggesting that maybe your temps aren’t unusual for the vehicle in your climatic conditions?

Small update.

Read out fault codes, FBH was in LockOut! Deleted, started, lot of happiness! Very Happy
Gets faster warm now, but not as good. Smile

I earlier pulled the fuse, but that didn't fix the LockOut unfortunately. Sad

Make sure you keep lots of fuel in tank if it gets low the FBH will lock out again!

i am currently a BMW and Porsche mechanic (with VAG experience too) and have never seen something like this...

when i drive 30 minutes at -3C and around 80kph straight, the car just must get up top 90C watertemp... shouldn't it?

i have read a lot now and it just seems like these cars never hest up... i am thinking about new EGR valves too now. that should heat it up quicker again.

I used an Infra Red temperature gun to check the temperatures when mine was not heating up to full temperature just to check that the sender or gauge were not operating correctly.
The sender and gauge were fine (even after changing the thermostat).
It turned out to be the EGR cooler pipes that i had bypassed when i removed the EGR's and coolers.
In EU4 engines (07 on) each EGR cooler has a mini thermostat built in the cooler as these bypassed the the main thermostat circuit.
The thermostat for EU4 engines is slightly different to cater for the modified coolers.

i have the old engine with EU3. I am about to order 2 brand new EGR valves, i am not a fan of these, but i can't stand the fact that this could be the problem.

thanks for constructive input!
