Epb amber fault. Can release with brake pedal & switch seq.
Hi all,
Finally solved all issues ready for mot, but now epb is playing up!
I can put epb on ok, but when trying to release I get amber parking brake light and parking brake fault message. I can release the epb if I depress brake 3 times, pull up switch 4 times, and then press it down.
Is this a symptom of jammed epb module, or badly adjusted rear drums?
I have new discs and pads and calipers all round, including parking brake. I have adjusted as per bodsys brake bible and i have run through a bedding in procedure.
Do I need to get under. It works on occasion.
Appreciate advice.
Mike

Read fault codes.
Have you caused it do you think?

Good question Pete!
I don't think I have. I removed the fuse early after I got it as epb was stuck on and I turned off with this process. All brakes were seized hence replacement but it would move.
I should of got codes. For some reason iid gives me a blank email when I export codes. I'll clear check and post tomorrow. There was nothing of note that I can remember.
Thanks for taking the time to reply

If all epb brakes where seized, have you checked that the cables that operate the shoes where free

Hi,
I'm not sure of EPB status before hand. The calipers weren't in great condition and required replacement as were corroded. I didn't specifically check the EPB cable.
Tested tonight. On putting fuse back in i could engage and release brake ok. After a few goes it went amber brake fault. I could release by pulling brake switch up 3 times and then down and holding. Removing key put EPB back on, and after i restarted i couldn't release EPB, unless again pulling the brake on and pushing off (although just pulling once this time before pressing down).
At one point i had a fault putting the EPB on - red flashing park brake light accompanied by the amber light. i couldn't put EPB on but once i removed the key the EPB engaged ok. Releasing the EPB on startup would sometimes be ok, sometime require me to force it off.
So - very intermittent. I can always release it with a combo of switch pulling/pushing but only occasionally first time.
I cleared faults before testing and here's the faults after all the above:

If you haven't used an EPB before, you need to hold the brake pedal down before pushing the release lever
2. Do not press the switch quickly. press/pull for 2 seconds.
the fault code says its the switch, like we said, I think it is like a TV remote control inside, may need cleaning with alchol
