EPB - emergency release cable

Does anyone have a picture of the EPB emergency release cable?

I removed the plastic plate behind the EPB yestrday in order to fit a switch into it. (Long story involving flashing LEDs in the front grille - photos to follow when I've managed to download them from the camera)

I fitted the switch but I was expecting to see a loop of steel cable (ie the emergency release), but it wasn't there.

I checked the other side (under the coin / pen tray) - the drivers manual is a bit confused about which side it should be on- but I couldn't see it there either.

About 12 months ago the dealer had the dash out to fix a clunk so I wonder if it wasn't quite put back right - but I'm not quite sure what I'm lookimg for.

Any help, advice, pictures of the cable (and how to take the centre dash out if I need to) would be appreciated.

Location --Its more middle to drivers side ..if they have removed bits they may not have located the outer sleve in the housing properly

You can see it here

The small loop of cable isn't directly under the panel, it's more under the centre console towards the TR dial. You should be able to see and reach it easily by removing the small panel though.

I also have some LEDs in that panel for strobes:

Wiggs, that's really helpful, thank you Thumbs Up I now know what I'm looking for. It sounds like it could be under the centre panel (around the TR switch). When I get a chance I'll have a look under there with a mirror - before contemplating taking out the whole consol. (I can't belive how much you'd taken out in the photo Bow down )

Ridgeback Moor - That looks really cool 8) - I didn't go as far as fitting repeating LEDs. I would have had to run a whole load of extra wires as my control box is in the spare battery box (with only a single switched power wire running through the bulkhead) and I decided it wasn't worth it.

I didn't take as much out as Wiggs but you certainly get the idea... it should be there.

My dealer had to refit the drinks holder under the rear centre console and in doing so pulled out the cable somehow !!!! I only found this out when I pulled the centre console out in order to wire something and found the cable was nowhere to be found (it was in the transmission tunnel Shocked Shocked ).

Yes ..it locates in a little grove (see mobyone's picture) if they have been doing work in that area ..it may have not been located in its holder ..so it would be out of view

I've had a look now and I can see the wire loop and the end of the white sleeve towards the centre of the consol. It doesn't seem to be as close to the EPB switch side as it is in mobyone's picture but you can just see it.

Is it worth me trying to get it back into place? Is it likely to clip back into the groove without me having to take the consol out? If I don't put it back and then need to use it in anger will it still work or is the grove critical?

I wouldn't worry about it, but it does have a grommet that it sits in as it enters from the transmission tunnel. Perhaps you can have a look/feel from under the car to see that the grommet is in place and then just leave it. You can always test it to see if it works... (suggest you use a screwdriver or similar to get some purchase on the cable loop)...

It's a right old pain to remove the console so unless you really have to I wouldn't. Thumbs Up

Does the rear of the console just pull up? I tried recently on a vehicle that wasn't mine but gave-up, not wanting to break anything. The front had already been unclipped with minimal effort.
TIA

The rear has 2 screws on each side behind the little blanking plates. The front is held together with clips and not so easy to re-assemble unless you have all the clips. The best part about the console is that the top section around the gear selector does lift off with minimal fuss for access to the cable underneath if necessary.

Thanks Mobyone. We only wanted access to the raise/lower switch so just the top section would have been appropriate but we did not know how it was attached. Maybe next time..
