EPB is it safe to drive.
Hi all. I have just had my orange brake warning light come on. I did a long search on here but could not find the same symptons. Mine just says EPB fault auto release not available, no screaching. gear display works. Its an 09 manual. It is due a service next month, is it OK to drive it till then. Thanks Chris.

Hi,
I assume it it operating ok apart from the warning message, if so, it should be ok
I would be inclined to leave it in gear when parked, just in case Never get mad - get even !!

I had a similar problem about 9 months ago, orange light on all the time, but EPB still worked as it should. I drove it for about 2 weeks while waiting for the dealer to sort, it turned out to be a 'wiring fault' which I think was probably just a loose connector, or maybe water ingress, the dealer charged almost £400, I havent had any issues since.Never get mad - get even !!

Worth familiarising yourself with he manual release pull behind the EPB cover, don't try it (if it ain't too broke etc) but know where it is if you need it. Also have a screwdriver or part of he jack with the curl on e end ready as you'll need a lot of pull, basically if you don't think "this is gonna break" you're not pulling hard enough!!

Sounds like you need to re-calibrate your XY switch. Try this:
Start in reverse then each forward gear, hold each gear with foot fully off the clutch until the gear indication shows the selected gear, this must all be done in one ignition cycle. Once complete turn ignition off and remove key until the radio clock & park brake indicator go off.

Q86ARR, I did read a thread about that, but I thought you had to lose the gear display aswell, still worth a try thanks.

Q86ARR, I did as you suggested and alls well, Thanks. I notice that some people say the clutch is on its way out when you get this fault, but mine seems fine only done 20,000, is there a way of testing the clutch. Thanks Chris.

Being a bit thick... - do you go through the cycle with the car running on the road or just with ignition on but engine not started?
My car has developed three faults:
- brake warning light telling me auto release not available
- rear parking sensors not working
- gear indicator light seems 'slow' to record the gearchange - don't remember it being other than instant although have never really looked that closely before
I'm guessing all three could be related?
Thanks.Andy C

Sorted!
Drove in low ratio, went through the gear cycle and turned everything off (takes ages before the P light goes out) and lo and behold, the brake warning light has gone out, dashboard gear indicator is instant and rear parking sensors working again.
