EPB issue
Hi,
Please could you someone give me some advice re the EPB on a Discovery 5 2005 plate, I have followed the Bodsy Bible guide guide to readjust handbrake if squealing like pig having its testicles stung within electric rod, by winding the kernels to a torque setting of 60nm and then slackening off by 8 clicks, then undoing the alien key by half a turn and wack gentle with rubber mallet to release and tighten back up. After this process was completed I go to apply the brake noise sounds just as bad if not worse and now I have an amber parking light (p) permanently on with a flashing re parking light (p) and the EPB won't apply. There's a warning 'park brake not applied lift lever to apply' if I do it makes a squeal and and lound clicking noise and keeps trying, until starting the car to cancel. Please could someone give me some advice? Will I need to strip the discs off and check fitting etc or is it another issue? Many thanks. Tony

Did you take the disc/drum off and clean and lube?
May well need a clean & rough up to get rid of the dust and grime.
Try that then adjust as before.2011 MY D4 HSE

Hi, if I'm just cleaning and lubing the rear brake shoes will I need to put in service mode? Also can the handbrake be applied with wheels off so I can test them before putting them back on again ??

Hi everyone, quick update. I managed to get the hubs off to investigate the issue and the drivers side handbrake cable had come off, so had to reattach, which is an absolute pig as you have to pull off the pins holding the shoes and the spreader plate, which isn't the easiest of jobs to put back together! Now the hub is back on and brake calliper and pads put back. I've attempted to rotate the hub and it won't budge. Is there a way of releasing the tension so I can make the finally adjustments? Thanks
@mahoneyt
You need to unjam the epb module that was suggested to you, if the cable has come off one side and you have applied the the epb it will be jammed on.
Follow DM's instructions on how to unjam it, and make sure your adjusters are also backed off. Make sure the wedge adjuster is fully in the back position by slackening the alen key bolt. { this needs to be done with the shoe off}.
If all is done in the right sequence then it should all work and allow you to get the disc's back on and adjusted up.

Mines all done now
If you need to unjam the module try it with the Iid tool first you mite get lucky
If not follow DM's guide it looks daunting buts it's more fiddley than hard the top three screws are the hardest
I did mine with the road wheels on and reversed up my ramps to gain access just because my drive is on a slope
Like flack said start again clean lub and adjust and it should work out fine
All transmission oil replaced
3 flash indicators
All timing belts changed
EPB serviced
De cat fitted
Wind deflectors
De-tango done
Tints fitted
Egr blanked

Hi Flack, Thanks for the quick reply. I'm manged to get the hub back on put it won't budge. Will I still have to release the EPB as Dm's guide or is there an alternative method? like attempting to release EPB by putting into service mode by pressing bake three times and holding EPB to see if that will unlock them? Thanks
I have three diagnostic tools and I have only ever once had one of them unjam a jammed on epb, the only way is to start from scratch again.
Remove the wheels and slacken all the adjusters right off, unjam the epb by removing the cover, make sure its wound fully back and latched.
Then adjust the shoes back up, then just apply the epb and if you have done it all right it will work and the faults will clear.

Think so just wind it back manually but make sure it's relatched to the small white box on the left look closely at the photos on DM's guide you need to squeeze the 2 metal bits together so they go inside the small white box
All transmission oil replaced
3 flash indicators
All timing belts changed
EPB serviced
De cat fitted
Wind deflectors
De-tango done
Tints fitted
