URGENT = PLEASE HELP!! 2010 D4 3.0 TDV6
Had the dreaded squeal fro the EPB last week so was planning to strip / clean and service the rear brakes however EPB has now seized and despite my best efforts, I cannot release it with the manual override cable. The car is stuck on the drive (which has a slight downward slope) and will not shift.
Am planning to jack it up and try and dismantle the rear brakes somehow but would welcome any advice / hints etc please.
1. Whilst trying to release the rake manually should I have the engine on or off and gear shift in Park / Neautral?
2. What should I be mindful of or looking for when trying to dismantle the rear brakes?
3. Is the a way of releasing the tension of the EPB cable whilst at the rear ?
If I have it recovered (assuming I can) what would the dealership / technician do to release them?
Thanks in advance.

DON'T LEAVE IT IN NEUTRAL WITHOUT CHOCKING THE WHEELS, OR WHEN THE BRAKE RELEASES THE CAR WILL ROLL AWAY!!!
The manual release requires an almighty pull. You won't snap it, so get something on it and pull like hell.
If it's on a slope it might help to start the engine and select reverse and just gently rock it back a bit against the slope to release the tension in the park brake shoes. Then chock the front wheels.
Good luck, and when you have released them, Bodsys brake bible is the best reference.

Thanks Gareth
I have got Bodsys Bible to refer to.
Should I put the EPB into service mode? If so, I see that Bodsys Bible refers to a technique for the D3 - is it the same for the early D4's? I do not have (yet) and of the software devices to do this.
Thanks

I wouldn't bother putting into service mode. Just leave it off and then back off using the adjuster through the disc.

Trouble is the EPB is stuck on so I cannot wind it off as the holes in the disc do not line up with the adjuster.
I have pulled the manual release as hard as I can (sat on the centre console and pulled and pulled) but to no avail
I now have it jacked up at the back and am looking to see if there is any way to disconnect the parking brake mechanism from there.
Any help on this please?

Ah. I guess the solution will depend somewhat on the cause. If the motor is failed, then software wont help.

You need to pull harder.............a lot harder. Get a bar and hook it through the loop in the cable

Take off a rear wheel. Where the park brake cable goes into the hub (thickest cable) there is a dust cover... remove it (think 14mm spanner) and under that is a circlip ... use a flat bladed screwdriver the remove it ... make sure it doesn't spring off ... it could go anywhere. The cable will then 'fall' into the hub... the circlip retains the cable. You will be good to go. As noted make sure you are in park. Chock etc.

I am not Arnie but am fit enough - trust me I have pulled this damn thing as hard as I can. Standing on both seats with my head through the sunroof.
Gonna give myself a hernia if I keep doing that!!

Pleased to sat that I am now mobile. I followed the Disco_Mikey 'release procedure' and managed to free the EPB. Did not risk connecting it up again at this stage (will wait until I get into a workshop)
Having unplugged the EPB module however, my fuel sender is going from full to empty and back again - can anyone tell me, are these things linked?
And if so, if I plug the EPB module back in am I going to be OK until I can see to it properly?
Thanks for everyone's help - particularly Disco_Mikey - I have only had the car for 6 weeks so think I will visit a bit in the next few years!!

I had trouble with mine once and jacked up on side of the car got under and pulled the cable out from underneath where it goes into the cockpit ... its a quarter turn yellow plug on the D3. Once down it's a straight shot from there ... screwdriver thru the loop and bingo ... much easier. Once on stands it's a 30 sec job to pull and replace. I was on flat ground.

It will have put you in limp mode as you have disconnected the EPB module and the car thinks there is an issue

It will put you in limp mode as the car thinks there is no diesel. The software "works" based on theoretical fuel according to the gauge, not actual. So if the car thinks its empty, it shuts the engine down. How they are linked, im not sure but I recall someone saying they are on the same fuse or something? maybe not the gauge, maybe that was the LP pump. I do recall some link though.

Will I need to have a software flash by a dealer when I plug this back in (I do not have a device myself yet) or will it recognise any issues have been resolved and reset?
