er....... did I crush my compressor??? |
|
I have had my Discovery 3 for 18 mths now and its by far the best of the 30 or so cars I have had, with a very active life and business as well as 3 kids it's perfect- I have still not found anywhere I can't take it (well where I can't take it and I have the guts to go). So it's a bit embarrassing but I think I may have crushed my compressor. I would love to say I did it off road but sadly was actually whilst trying to replace the back left (off side) tyre in the rain on Lower Regent Street with cars flying all around me. With rain on me specs I could not see where the correct jack point was and I mistakenly jacked on the housing under the compressor. Now it makes a rattling noise- this is not good but the self levelling suspension works pretty well but noisy. I assume that this is a garage job- can anyone offer any advice- anyone else been this stupid (and willing to admit it!!!).
Cheers

Welcome to the site Joe
I'd suggest taking off the plastic cover and taking a look, you may have just dislodged/misaligned it and may be able to remedy it easily, if not sounds like a trip to a dealer is required The End

thanks!
maybe I have the wrong place but the cover looks decidedly metal- I have a chunk of it!! The location is just in front of the correct jack point in front of the rear left wheel.

That's the compressor alright. Various pictures of the cover as it is removed and cleaned here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic11652.html
Three bolts and some clips hold the cover on. Watch the one on the inboard rear; I'd recommend you undo that first as it's a sod to do once the cover is hanging down when you've undone the other two and disengaged the clips, thinking there's only 2 bolts.... I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

was a trip to the dealer- and a £400 bill
However they uploaded the very latest engine management software for me
now it drives smoother than a well oiled, teflon coated baby's bottom!!
just as well because there are no more V8 petrols!!
Thanks again

Sorry to hear that it cost you, but glad to hear the sofware is worthwhile. Mine has just had the new software installed, but the car is still in the dealers waiting for the handbrake to be fixed. Should have it back on Tuesday I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Curious too as I didn't see any mention in the release notes for the latest ids patches. Mine is going to be getting an air suspension sw upgrade next week so will enquire about the rest. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

LRA guy just mentioned that the newest patches had updates to improve auto box smoothness and improve drivability/performance. The patches only arrived with him on Thursday or Friday last week.
What's the betting it get's over-written with older software at the dealership? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

That's the same software that generated a TSB about 2 months here in the States. We have a big problem with this odd "rumbling" noise when driving down the freeway and press on the gas after cruising. As far as I know, it was only the V8s. 2005 LR3 HSE - ARB Bumper, Warn XD9000, Custom Rock Sliders and Skid Plates, BBS Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme, Kenwood TMD-700, etc, etc,

The LRA guy was adamant it was for the TDV6 and was a new patch in the last 2 weeks. I'll see if the dealer is prepared to talk details when I pick the car up tomorrow. (fingers crossed) I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

just read all the responses, well guys all I can say is that this thing is soooooooooo smooth it's scary, on the moterway (freeway for our American friends) gear changes are almost inperceptable. The Oxford dealer said that it was brand brand new- I was the first recipient - was not even on his parts list. I am dead jealous of the US still having the V8, I run the EU subsiduary of a company headquartered in Long Island so I'll try and chat up the Finance VP to rent me one next time I go......... looking forward to the 3.8 V8 deisel here in the UK on the discovery 3 tho.
