Any more details on fault?? What message is under what conditions and how cleared etc. More in info is deffinately better so that our suggestions are a little less based on guesswork.
And welcome Jimalgie!

The egrs can be blanked on the 05 & 06 no problems with no lamp on the dash, your fault can not be related to blanking if done correctly.
i assume you left the electrical wires connected to the egs and also removed the butterfly from the plastic manifold ?

If you don't remove the butterfly then the engine will be pretty much strangled at low revs as it will close to allow gases to flow in from the (now blanked off) EGR valves.
It MUST be removed or you will have problems 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

You mentioned you fitted the blanking plates yourself Jim...is that right?
If so, then you should definitely know if you also removed (or jammed open) the butterfly valve in the intake manifold....or not....
I'm just confused why you refer to it as "them" when there is only one of them.
Or did someone else fit them for you?

The butterly can be still in even though it runs fine when accelerating, but can cause errors when its shut and the egr should be open. As paul said it could be strangleing the engine.
It sounds like a fitting error to me to be honest, have a look on my site at a propper stainless steel kit and the correct fitting instructions.
