Expedition Rack "Slim" Modification
so, i have stumbled upon a pretty sweet deal on an expedition rack that i just cant pass up. however, the hospital i work at has a pretty low garage and i am going to have modify the rack so it will fit. in searching the forum here and a couple others, i have ran across a few pics of disco 3's/LR3's with the top part of the rack cut off. does any body have any recommendations on how to do this or any pics? i still haven't picked up the rack, so i don't really have a feel for how i will have to modify it. thanks in advance!

Drill out the rivets on the plastic covers for the rear framework. This exposes the allen bolts to remove the rear frame. Front bit is all rivets. About an hour to remove, about hour and a half to replace. In the process of replacing at the moment as have mounted up some LF140s on the front I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

nice pic. i really like that look. also, do you know how many centimeter's the slim version adds to the height of the disco at the highest point in the back?

hi
at the highest point at the back the height added is just short of 9 cm but mine is slightly more coz of the straping loops and the cb aerial mount
hope that helps

that helps a ton! i went up to work this afternoon and measured all of the lowest points in the garage. at the lowest point in the garage with the disco in normal height there is 11.5cm of clearance. i think this is going to work!

thanks for the help guys! i got the rack and now have the fairing and top railing off. did any of you do anything to the rear most tubing of the base of the rack? these two rear ends are now open after removing the plastic fittings. i am thinking it might be a good idea to plug these up somehow to prevent water from getting inside. any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks!
oh...here's a pic when i picked up the rack before chopping the top off. its not really fitted correct on there.

I used a section of the old top rail to fill the gap between the rear ends of the main frame. I thin cut down the platic end caps, and riveted them back on to cover the ends.
