Anyone tried an external radio aerial instead of the in glass fitted in D3 ??
Seriously believe the aerial in my 05 is the root cause for drop out I'm getting but could be wrong.
Experiences & thoughts folks

Technically its possible, you can set the ariel up the same way as I did for a CB with one of RLD's brackets, and to the untrained eye people would think its a CB one, not sure of how its connected to the rear of the unit though, and knowing the technical nature, it probably wont be the old coax plugs of old.
Yeah could do - as for the end connection not a problem as I have already retro fitted a multimedia system instead of the base stereo.

Right, well 1st you need one of RLD's brackets
I painted mine Hammerite Black, then fitted
This was before I fitted the Expo rack, but the next pic was when the rack was fitted, RLD's bracket just slotted into the crossbars this time. You can see where the cable runs
Then run the cable down that side, behind the rear lights is a grommit that allows entry into the cabin, once there the jobs a goodun
Another thought - could a radio aerial be fitted inside the roof fin unit I have just bolted on???
Any contributions greatly received

That one is beyond me as I aint looked into it, albeit I only have a dimple on me roof. Somebody on here did solder onto the exisiting ariel wires in the window for DAB radio, technically it can be done.
...or TFC who includes vehicle sparky on his skills list...The End

Mac how have you run the cb coax from the rear of the d3 ive got as far as the rubber grommet behind the light unit? Also how have you got cable into the cubby box, and i take it you have taken power from the 12v socket on rear of cubby box. any info would be great

Theres 2 grommets there matey, one on the outside skin, and one on the interior frame. Pierce a hole in the centre and thread through the outside grommit, open the cubby door and you will see the interior one, identical in size and roughly the same place.
Remove the interior one, this aids obtaining access to coax cable, do the same to the grommet with hole, thread through the cable and replace the grommet in panel. Now the cable is in the D3, the world is your oyster.
Heres my end result
You can run the cable to anywhere under trim and carpets once the cable is in the D3, I only needed to go as far as the cubby

If you are doing the same thing roughly, power can be taken from the bottom of the cubby box either by the power plug at rear, or by the cooler power....

I opened up the rear cup holders at the bottom of the cubby box in passenger area (alot of members dont realise they are there ), and remove the Power panel/Aux Panel in the rear, just pull gently and it unclips. Drill of cut the cubby box where that panel was, and thread the cable under trim, under the seat runners(there is a gap), not above as the movement of seats will foul this, through the bottom cup holders, up inside the rear of cubby and through the hole in box you cut.
