Fan noise from the gearbox??
Not being technically gifted I have an issue. I have recently noticed a whirring fan like noise coming from the vicinity of the gearbox. It stays on even after the engine is turned off before gradually disappearing. Is this normal or should I be worried?06 Bonatti Grey HSE, Ebony Interior with Privacy Glass & Rubbing Strips.

is the noise inside the car or outside, and do you mean from around the gearstick area.
If it is then it sounds like your cooler box is on, check under the arm rest.
If its from outside I havn't got a clue but i'm sure someone will know what it is.Focus ST500

My Disco 3 makes noises not unlike a subdued, soft siren. I have noticed it from day 1. I thought it might be a pump putting liquids about the gear box or turbo or both????? to ease the thermal shock.Did you think I would leave you crying,

The fan on my cooler box is audible once the engine has shut down. If you have a low-ish battery this will shut itself down as the battery approached a safety cut-off voltage. This would be in roughly the right place.
The only other whiring thing I know about once the engine is off is the DVD in the satnav unit under the passenger seat; could this be it? I have no clues why the DVD keeps seeking/spinning once the key is out - doesn't it know it's not needed anymore?Dr. Ian Malcolm:

There is also a small engine control unit (ecu) fan that is blows air over the the metal casing of the ecu and is works without the ignition being on if the ecu temperature is too great Money talks.Sex sells.Mud sticks.Time flys. happens.People talk.Impressions last!

Fan Noise
Thanks for all your replies. It was in fact the cooler box that was on. How stupid do I feel. Ho hum, now how do I start the damn thing again?06 Bonatti Grey HSE, Ebony Interior with Privacy Glass & Rubbing Strips.
