Fan staying on after short journeys and burny plastic smells

Hi folks,

Juts bought myself a 2016 Discovery 4 commercial last weekend!

I picked it up at Berwick Upon Tweed and drove it back to Aberdeen. Everything seemed fine. I was away working all week so haven't been in it. Took it fir a run in town down to the shops and when I got back and switched the vehicle off the fan or something was still whining away from under the bonnet. I also thought I could smell burning plastic or rubber, or perhaps not burning but a hot plastic smell of you know what I mean??
I must add that I did have the heaters on full as well as the seat heater as it’s baltic outside!

My question is should I worry, should I get it checked out, is it the fan or somthing to do with the heaters, is it normal?... cheers i a few questions but you prob get my drift!

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

You're smelling the exhaust from the fuel burning heater, switches off automatically after it goes through a shutdown cycle.

Check nothing is touching the hot bits of the FBH. Plastic burning smell isn't right, although the FBH exhaust itself can smell a bit suspect if you're not used to it (exhaust exits near the NSF wheel).

Cheers. That’s exactly where the smell was coming from...out the vent! I’ll give it’s a good check over today. Your right about not being used to the smell. It’s almost a generic response to say “burning plastic or rubber” when you smell somthing like that fir the first time. Thanks fir the reply’

As you are new to the D4 you might not know you can add some gubbins to the vehicle to start that heater 15 minutes before you leave the house and the car can be warm and toasty before you start the engine!
Search for Altox or remote fbh and you will find loads of posts.
I bought the Genuine Landrover remote kit for my D4 but wish I’d gone for the Altox as it can be used from anywhere with a phone or internet connection and also has a GPS tracker built in if you chose that version
If you want the extra level of comfort there’s a heated steering wheel option as well
 Must stop buying shiny toys....
