ok a tad embarrassing .....but need help as ive currently got all dash out etc, to replace my ashtray assembly. the thing I cant seem to get out is the actual cigarrete part with the green ring attached to my old one ,just cant for the life off me see how it comes out without breaking it! it seems to have lugs at the back holding it in, but it looks as though they wont push in unless the silver part separately came out first but cant seem to do this either.
would really appreciate some quick help as need to get it all back and its getting dark! blessed are the losers ,for they determine the winners

Hi Flapjack
when I had to change the bulb in my cigarette lighter socket I seem to remember that you had to push the lighter socket through the green ring from the back then the green ring is attached by a bayonet type fixing????
It was a while when I did mine and I cant be 100% sure. hope that helps

Yep your right headtorch to be exact! However I have had success! I managed to hacksaw the old unit apart to allow the cigarette part to come out then that allowed me to separate the two parts with some gentle persuasion off course!
Took ages on something so simple and stupid but I eventually got there without breaking it! All is well and all back together again for the wife to drive away in the morning, blissfully unaware off my nightshift! Thanks to the one pointer I got blessed are the losers ,for they determine the winners
