fault code C1A20-64 following Hitachi Compressor overhaul

Not a happy bunny.

Removed my compressor, changed dryer desiccant and filters, fitted new aluminium lid and replaced exhaust valve.

Upon refit and test, it runs, pumps very slowly up to about 500kPa then cuts out on either fault code C1A20-64 or hot compressor.

No sign of any leakage via the soapy water test, everything worked fine before stripdown apart from a few gallery venting too slowly alerts.

As the front dropped overnight prior to stripdown, I also stripped the front valve block and cleaned out all the dust.

The compressor is off the car again now, where should I look first?

Not really what I wanted to hear Narpy, lol!

Still finding my way around the IID tool, in the live values when it says exhaust valve 100%, is that fully open or fully shut?

Well I think I may have just found the problem - the replacement exhaust valve seems to have degraded Sad

hmm spoke too soon. Compressor runs and pumps up slowly to around 1200kPa then stops when compressor temp hits 130deg. Gallery pressure then drops to around 300kPa, when compressor cools, it cycles again doing the same. Still so sign of leaks on pump, tank or valve blocks via the soapy water test.

Anyone?

I was in a similar situation after a compressor overhaul a few months back. After messing around for a few days, I bit the bullet and replaced my Hitachi with a new Dunlop unit.

Some get lucky with the repair kits, others do not unfortunately.

Is the Dunlop a straight no mod swap?

Sorry, but you can't sugar coat a response to a totally paggered suspension pump.
If it's the original one fitted, it's probably time to dig deep into the pockets and replace it.
Many have tried to refurb the old one and most soon realise they're throwing good money away.

Plus 1 Narpy Bow down

I also tried to repair my hitachi and indeed was a lost cause , bought a Dunlop plus bracket as the old one was all broken

With the compressor out the way gave me a chance to paint all the chassis with dinitrol

Replaced the air tank at the same time as that was also in a right mess on top where the seams were, gave it 3 x coats of Dinitrol as well before installation , new stainless steel bolts

Yes, Dunlop is a straight swap for the Hitachi. I got mine from AF and with the forum discount, it was the cheapest I could find.

I'm still have half a thought that the rebuilt compressor may not be toast, when I have the time and inclination for a bit more self inflicted pain, I may swap back to give it a go .....
