Various tow bars ....which is best? |
|
hi all,
Im looking at getting a tow bar ....I have d3 2005 7 seater. Im not planning on towing a lot of weight set. amby a small boat or trailor.
I like the idea of the lr removable bar ....the seller has told me all i need to do is attach it ....no instillation? he said that the car is already built for it and its a simple process of plugging it in?
any abvise would be great.

Hi. I fitted a Witter tow bar simply because, IMHO, it is stronger & more robust (3 fixing points rather than just 1) but it is a permanent fix. The wiring can be fitted in 30 mins, the only fiddly bit is getting the harness thro' the correct route behind the rear bumper, which you don't need to remove. Happiness is a warm ruck

Agreed. It's also better (or even essential) if you want to use any tow connection other than a ball; or bolt anything to the towbar (e.g. bike carrier bracket, or stabiliser). Removable type might be better if you go off-road a lot. Or even a bit.
Important to use the dedicated LR wiring kit (two types available, twin 7-pin, and 13-pin), rather than trying to splice the wiring for the sockets into the looms using snap connectors or whatever... ____

im tending towards the removable tow bar ....it seems the best option for me ...towing maby 4 times per year.
is there limit to the capicity of this removable bar .....as it looks quite simple compared with all thr bolting etc required with a standard tow bar?

Think the nose weight changes only....
Removable is 150kg and seem to remember somewhere quoting 250kg on fixed.
