2 weeks ago noticed a humming noise from the front of my 3 1/2 yr old D3, 50k miles. Thought a worn wheel bearing, contacted dealer in cardiff- duly picked up last friday and investigated. Told that it was amazing car hadn't had serious accident/breakdown as nearside front wheel bearing "hanging off" and in addition probably needs a new power steering pump and maybe a "new steering rack" Potentially a bill of £2000 !! Fortunately had purchased a 3rd party warranty- unsurprisingly warranty company sending out someone to verify work! 2 issues here- either the car is poorly engineered in 1st place- never had a car with worn out wheel bearings at 50k miles, and /or the dealer is trying to take me/warranty company for a ride about repairs. Had a "health check" 6 mths ago when everything was fine- only for the wheel to be about to fall off some 8k miles later... Love the car but for this sort of thing to occur at this age puts me off considering replacing it with a D4.....
