fitting aux 12v socket in rear compartment |
|
Hi All,
I've fited an Aux 12v socket in the boot compartment, ie where LR didn't fit one in my 2 seater sports coupe D3, its in place and ready to be connected
question is, can anyone tell me, where exactly the socket is connected in to the power on the factory installs, and is it governed by the ignition or not

Hi Mark,
the standard fit socket in the back IS powered off the ignition.
I converted mine to permanent live (with an in-line fuse for protection) using Wiggs' advice in the following.....

didn't need a rubber mallet though

Hi Mark,
I can't help much, someone such a Wiggs will be able to help you more and I'm sure he'll give you some info later. However I can tell you that on the models where the socket is standard in the back it is ignition dependant i.e. if the ignition isn't on then there is no power to the socket.
Most people that want to have power to the aux sockets when the ignition is off tend to go for a second battery setup (The D3 has a space for a second battery) and this is used to power the sockets. This means that the main battery isn't used and you never lose power to start the engine. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Have a good route around as there will more than likely already be the connector for the aux socket .
Its yellow / orange colour and will have a purple and black lead comming from it .
Open the cubby door and look upwards ..its proberly tucked up in the wiring somewere G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

After your fumble this morning did you find anything in the cubby? The connector is more than likely wrapped in soft grey foamy stuff and tied back on the loom. Its easy enough to find and easy to fit.
Enjoy the event over the weekend and hope it all goes off well. Have made a donation today.
Post up a few pics when/if you get back

Hi BB. How did you get on with retro fitting the 12v aux outlets? would be very interested as i want to do the same mod too. Do you buy LR 12v sockets or can you use standard off the shelf ones from somewhere like halfords etc? Did'nt realise there was one in the cubby box but makes good sence there is. D3 bonatti grey

Does anyone know the part numbers needed to order the 12 volt (and Aux) panel for the passenger area. I went to the dealer and they only have listed the blanking panel.
