Wiggs, are you positive that battery disconnection is NOT needed?I have to take off the air bag again ,since i followed the alignment mark on new wheel and is all crooked now, should have fallowed the old wheel mark....This battery disconnecting thing takes me more time than air bag,but i rather be safe, than sorry on skipping this procedure...hence my question...is it OK to leave it connected?

Have you seen what little voltage it requires to set an airbag unit off? I didn't realise these contained explosive until my local Volvo dealer offered to show one deployed. They weren't allowed to return old ones, and so bolted it to a workbench outside the back of the garage and touched the battery. The force lifted the whole workbench into the air... it would probably blow your whole hand off if you were holding it!!!

I wonder what will happen when all these cars with 6 or more airbags get old, and keen teenagers start taking them apart to fix - I suspect it'll become an issue in a few years as people start to blow bits off themselves.

well in my effort to remove the black (right hand plug) I managed to pull a wire out. Slipped with pliers I guess
Because I'am a stubin old git I basicaly knackered that black plug!!!

Because it plugs into the air bag I did'nt want to risk repairing it as I did'nt want it going off in my wifes or mine face so I thought I'd better replace it.
Lets just say it was MORE than the kin steering wheel !!!

Lesson, NEVER do things on a Friday evening and having to finish the job with a tourch!!!

On a plus side I love the new wheel !!!

Oh well live & learn!!

You might aswell sell the wheel and get a heated one now ...the new clock spring will have the extra plug for powering the heated wheel ...

Heated wheel about £7 more than the smooth ones
