FITTING ROOF RAILS - HELP
Hi I have some second hand roof rails I want to fit myself. I have no instructions but understand it is meant to be relatively straightforward? Take off trim and shorten, that sounds easy enough. However, i have some shaped rubber pieces I don't know what to do with, and we can't get the bolts to go into the holes on the roof - do you have to remove part of the bolt first - I read they are blanking screws but I don't know that term. Is there a thread already there coz we can't see it!
Any help would be very gratefully received as we need to attach a roofbox next week!
Thanks

You can download the fitting instructions from http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com
The holes should have small plastic inserts in them (so the threads don't get filled with paint when the body is sprayed), just lever them out using a fingernail or small screwdriverThe End

Thanks for the advice - I have tried the link but can't get it to work - Ours is a 54 reg so one of the first Disco 3s. The area where the bolt goes in seems very attached to the roof - with a hole in it with no thread and too small for the bolt. Do we take that off by unscrewing it? It has a nut which you could undo with a spanner by the look of it. It is also very encrusted with body paint - do we chip that off to get at the bolt hole? Do you know anything about the rubber pieces which have been supplied with the fixing kit?
Thanks!

That's the bit I was on about, you should see a slight lip under the paint, it's the plastic insert, pull it out. Don't undo the nutThe End

Thanks that's the tip i needed! Have just had a look and see exactly what you mean - they've just popped off - easy when you know how. Will be fitting them tomorrow...... and we'll ignore the rubber shapes i guess? Thanks again.
