Fitting used instrument cluster (mileage sync) |
|
Has anyone done this with a Faultmate or IID ?
I have a used cluster, with lower mileage than the car (i read somewhere this was important).
I have a MSV-2 tool, i read the CCF, removed the old cluster, fitted the used one, wrote the CCF, VIN is correct in the cluster, etc.
The instrument cluster still shows the lower mileage of the new cluster.
Is there a procedure to update the mileage on the cluster to match that stored on the other ECU's?
Or will the car sync the mileage to the highest of the ECU's stored values after some time / distance on its own?
Thanks New Engine - Fitted with body on...

All the info, not just milage has to be transferred from the old to the new for it to work, don't ask me how. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It isn't just the mileage, it hold all the information, settings, identity vin number, CCF, seams strange that you are most concerned about lower mileage! It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I know nothing about this from personal experience, and have limited experience with d3s, but pretty sure one of the other threads discussed this.
It’s late, or I’d find it if I could, but maybe look in the IID faqs
The basic gist of it was that the iid tool can increase the mileage count of the “new” cluster, but cannot reduce it.
So the importance is, in order to sync the mileage from your old unit to the new unit, the new unit must have a lower mileage.
If you get one with a higher mileage, you are stuck
That’s what I remember, anyway.
Might be I got it wrong

The MSV can do it I have done a couple with it, but now only use the IID Tool.

Procedure with an iid, having copied all info from the old cluster before removal is;
Menu->Service Test->Instrument Pack->Synch odometer
Menu->Service Test->Instrument Pack->VIN Learn
No experience to share of any other tool though... New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

Quote:So i bit the bullet and while i had the cluster out, simply swapped the 35080 chip from my old cluster to the newer used one.
Thanks, but that was the part I was looking for photos of. Sounds interesting!

@discostick
Yes I know that bud I was referring to the backup procedure to change it, the MSV could change the mileage when it first came out, but he got in to a lot of trouble over it and it was dropped.
