| Flashing brake warning light |
|
Several times over the weekend, (and just now), when I've started the car up, the red brake warning light has flashed for a few seconds and is accompanied by a warning chime. There are no messages coming up, the EPB is applied and the car seems to drive normally.
Any ideas please before I contact LRA?

possibly pads, but only the front left and rear right are tested, and only one pad on each wheel  - so thats 2 pads out of 8 that are monitored... best to check visually as the others could be a lot more worn and start eating into the discs!! Duncan

Thanks. It was only serviced a few weeks ago, and I thought that if it was pads, then there should be a warning message that comes up? Fluid is fine. Also, it doesn't do it all the time (once in ten starts?). I will certainly have a look at the pads though (when it's topped raining!).

Sounds like a faulty sensor as Duncan says only two of them so check them both

i have a spare sensor in the garage - i disconnected mine (on the D3) as they dont really help to be honest, and are  to change. Duncan

EPB not applying properly is the cause. When the light flashed again, I had the window open. A quick lift of the switch, and I could hear the EPB "whir" for a moment. I took the car to be looked at, and it was confirmed that it's the EPB sticking a bit. When I've got time, it's going to be stripped and lubricated. If that doesn't cure it, it looks like new cable(s).

Interesting! I get the feeling that when it's sorted, there will be a D4 for sale very soon. I put up with all sorts of things with the D3, and promised that the D4 will have one chance. It's already had that as I'm waiting for the parts for the smoking issue. Seems the D4 isn't much better than the D3 then?

It's a needless warning, telling you that the EPB has recalibrated itself. Needless because the driver doesn't need to know that it has, only when it has failed to do so. Remember in Apollo 13? The controllers didn't tell the crew about possible heatshield damage because there was nothing they could do about it. Likewise there's nothing for a driver to do about an automated process successful completed - he needs bells and whistles when it hasn't.

For one reason or another I've not had chance to get this sorted yet. The car went in a while ago for the excess smoke modification, and I mentioned the brake issue to the lad on service reception at the time. However, when I went to collect it, the Service Manager knew nothing of it. The strange thing is that whilst it's been dry, or the car's been garaged, there's been no repeat. Until today! It was fine when I got it out of the garage, but we've driven 200 miles in really wet weather, and the first time I've started it since, on came the flashing warning light. Looking back, it was a wet day when it first did it.
I must get it looked at, even though last time there were no faults logged. I suppose it is foolish to think that a "proper 4x4" would cope with a bit of water.
