Flickering oil warning light
Okay - have had a flickering oil warning light for over two weeks now and its driving me insain . Replaced the oil pressure switch and it still flickers. Disconnected the cable to the switch and low and behold - it still flickers so at least I know its not an oil pressure issue! Cable is intact leading to the switch but its obviously shorting somewhere along the loom. Does anyone have any idea as to where to look. Its my project for Saturday!.... Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new!

I would not assume anything and certainly would not be driving it until I had a put a test gauge on the oil pressure switch port.
Dont forget a blown engine will financially write off just about all D3 and early D4.

could be knackered dash.
or as you say wires do rubb on metal work on the D3.
You could cut the wire at the dash end (enough to re join) and see if that stop it.
If it does, you could run a new wire in.

Yep - thought about that - but somewhere on the forum it was identified where to look for possible cable chafing.....somewhere close to the winscreen there is a connector which also connects the exterior air temerature but I cannot find the thread! Hi Pete
No - could not find the short anywhere although it was most definitly a short..... so cut into the loom behind the speedo and run a new cable all the way to the sensor switch - bit of a ball ache but solved the problem. Worked fine after that without a single problem. Have recently replaced the Disco with a...... Ranger (only for commercial tax reasons). Miss the disco but was begining to prove a little expensive as something went wrong after every long journey!Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new!
