Fluid capacity of the ZF HP26 Auto Gearbox - ?

Can anyone tell me the fluid capacity of the ZF HP26 gearbox as fitted to the TDV6 Auto?
It's omitted from my edition of the handbook.
I did know it in the past but have forgotten it.
All I know is that it's nowhere near the capacity of the 'manual' box.

D3 having all it's lubrication oils changed next week and I'm having some Active8 added to all lubricants.
I'm in the process of working out the correct ml for each aspplication but the gearbox is the only one I don't have.

btw, see here for detail on this amazing product:

I'm sure it's around 9.5 litres for a dry fill, but usually you can only get max 5 litres during a drain/flush Thumbs Up

OK - someone else tell him that they have just checked their GTR documents and that from a dry fill, the ZF HP26 definitely holds 9.5 litres.......

I doubt Ron will believe you, but it's worth a try Whistle Laughing

Ron - you need to remember that the manual box just uses oil for lubrication.....in the auto box, it uses ATF to actually work as well as for lubrication.

When I've flushed the gearbox oil in my D3 I managed to get out 4 litres the first time and closer to 5 litres the second time..... Thumbs Up

The managing to get 4 to 5 litres out links up sort of with what 4 tech say and of course would make sense with a double flush cleaning as much as possible of the 9.5 litres Thumbs Up

OK, now totally in your hands .... but still don't know ?
Is it under 1.6ltr as in the manual box?
Is it 5 ltr per Transformer
or
Is it 9.5 ltr Question
Confused

Someone please, put me out of my misery Big Cry

Think it means box holds 9.5 litres but in any one go you can only drain 4 to 5 litres hence the 'need' to double flush.

Ron Banging Head Banging Head Laughing

The auto box holds 9.5 litres of ATF.....

But when you change the oil, half of that stays in the torque convertor etc and doesn't drain....this means that you can only drain a maximum of 4.5-5 litres out and therefore only put back another 4.5-5 litres to fill it back up.....

If you dissassembled the gearbox and cleaned out everything (including clearing out the 5 litres stuck in the torque convertor), and then you proceeded to fill it up with it completely dry, then you would get 9.5 litres in.....

Please don't make me say it again or the kitty gets it:

OK I admit it Paul, I must be having a 'blonde' moment.

So best bet is to use the 9.5 ltr for my percentage mix ..... yes?
[it won't do no harm ... except to my wallet]

Next ....where is that dumbo that said it was under 1.6 litre Evil or Very Mad

Thumbs Up Transformer, but I'm not doing a double flush.
Just a drain and refill.
Already had this done 50k ago, hence no need for the double flush.

many thanks for your input btw Thumbs Up

Just to stick another spanner in the ointment, it might be worth having a read of this thread -

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic54526.h...2Badditive

Personally I have used Activ8 in my old Td5 Defender, after a major engine/turbo/vac pump problem causing premature excessive wear, the engine ended up sounding like a bag of spanners.

I saw the same demo as the youtube clip at the Billing show a couple of years ago and bought some to go in the Def'ner and I have to say it worked very well, quietened it down a treat, but to be honest, I had nothing to lose.

I would be wary of sticking it my D3 though, at least not without a bit more research.
