Found something greasy... 🙈
Hi
So whilst trying to sort the accumulating issues with my D3 I came across this...
Looks like a lithium type grease? I have been having a 'Grinding noise' that I had put down to the rear propshaft needing replacing... Though it now seems my gearbox/transfer box may be ??
Could anyone please shed some light/experience on this?
Many thanks... I'm off for a little cry now and to smash the kids piggy banks ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

But question is why is it coming out like a white grease?Would have thought it would be more oil like?
Going to drop the oil out now and take a look

Have you been in water? it may well be contaminated Diff oil.
It can go all milky and look like mayonnaise....

I thought the same...i personally haven't been in water but no idea if any previous owners have
Think its time to drop the diff?
Anyone know what the weight of one is?can it be man handled lifted alone?

Could a blocked breather pipe cause moisture build up in the diff? (i still have old style unmodified breather)

I don't know if a blocked breather could cause that or not, my guess would be no but it is a guess.
The diff is b...dy heavy but should be ok on a trolley jack.
Have you worked out where its coming out yet? I think if it was me I would drain it out as best i could and refill and see what happens!!

+1
Dipped the engine oil on my sisters 20 year old Fiesta once, it was being driven into the ground as the head gasket was gone and the car was worth nothing. It was like white mayonnaise on the dip stick. No sign of black oil what so ever. But as water was getting in it was actually over full

Its definitely coming out via the drive shaft oil seal..i think!Cant really be any other explanation....
I guess that water has gotten in there somehow and that one or more of the bearings have gone.
Compiling a (long) list of parts needed as we speak and going to take the plunge and order everything in one go and worry about it afterwards!
New Rear prop..bearings...seals..full set of tyres...lower wishbones and a Hunter 4 wheel alignment...And im off to watch wales v ireland in dublin next weekend, could have done without the expense!

Have had a similar issue but from LH driveshaft axel of the front diff.
In my case was the blocked breather to cause the leaking because it won't permit pressure equalization during rapid temperature change (i.e. when you drive into a cold puddle or wade and you diff oil is warm)
This is the new design front diff breather:

Hi Thanks for info...did your 'grease' look like my picture?
Also im getting a terrible grinding/clunk noise from drivers wheel...cant find anything obvious, bearings appear ok..replaced track rod ends...play in lower wishbones though.Put wheels back on to see if track rod ends helped but its still there?Wondering if a drive shaft on drivers wheels could have snapped?
Brakes are not seized. One slider pin on drivers carrier had threaded and lost its screw..new one sput on but no difference.
HELP!!!!!!......

Is the noise constant?
If the steering angle sensor is out it'll cause terrible grinding sound trying to bring the car back round from the skid it assumes you are experiencing.
Not something simple/dumb like the disc backing plate fouling?Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto (Gone)
54 TDV6 SE Man (killed by me )

Hi..
Couldn't see anything fouling so can probably eliminate that.
The noise is very significant when turning but lesser when in straight line. Judder felt through steering wheel... Almost as if wheel will fall off.. A grind and clunk is closest I can describe.. Will lower wishbones make this noise?
