Freeing up lock mechanism |
|
Hello,
My driver's side lock is sticking slightly (it had to happen sooner or later - all the other locks have been replaced!). It doesn't lock from the remote, but still opens if you manually lock it. Just looks like it's not going through its full travel.
I seem to remember that there's a way to free it up, but can't find it on the forum...
I'll get it into the dealers, but I'm busy the next couple of weeks, so a stop-gap would be good!
Thanks,

When it's locked, pull the handle whilst unlocking with either the remote or button on the dash, that should free it up! Ben

Thanks for the tip. That's useful. Just wondered if there was somewhere to oil, so something to do to free up the mechanism so it moved more easily.

What would happen in a crash - does it mean that folk outside would not be able to rescue you easily

Good point - hadn't thought of that - but I've got the 'taxi mode' turned off (auto locking), and always drive with the doors unlocked - so should be OK. 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

I was wondering (I should read the hand book) whether there is a mechanism that disables the locking on impact. There should be in these days of "health and safety". Of course of the lock is not working correctly in the first place........

From (sketchy) memory, on impact, the airbags are deployed, the hazards come on, the interior lights come on, and the doors unlock. 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

...that's "sketch memory" from reading the book, not experiencing a crash! 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

So another D3 Forum top tip:
If the locks jam, a crash will open them

Mmmm - it feels a little too 'last resort'.
Seriously though, I'm guessing the locks only open if they're fully functioning!

On a seroius note, this is rather worrying feature (especailly when you see how folk drive in this country)

Where is the option for turning auto-locking on/off John?

Keep pressing the info button on the steering column stalk (when the car's not moving) until you get to the settings menu. It's in there, under 'auto-lock' I think. Forward and back and the volume audio controls change the settings.
From memory - hope that helps.

Thanks John - will check the info menu options tomorrow. Can't think where else it might be so I'm sure you're right - just don't remember seeing it there before (but then I wouldn't have been looking for it then!).
