Front Brake Pad question

Hello All,

I replaced the front brake pads the other week and I've been meaning to ask this for a while. The replacement pads had a cylindrical piece of metal on them that the one's I took off did not.

I'm confident that the pads supplied are the correct one's for may car (thanks TLO Wink ) but I wondered if anyone could shed some light on what it is or why the pads were different?

The pads fitted perfectly well and work as expected. I'm just curious.

Cheers,
 Bri

this is for avoiding squealing issues.

moves the vibrational behaviour of the pad by adding mass, to a point were is less prone to squeal when braking.
