Front CV joints - which end CV (inner/outer) comes off

Hi,

I am stripping, or trying to strip the front drive shafts on my D3 to fit new CV boots. Rears were a doddle - shaft and CV/rollers come out of the inner CV bell and you do both CV boots from that end of the shaft.

When I moved on to the front it was not that simple - Inner CV does not slide out of it's bell - there is what looks like a peening mark on each race that stops the CV from being with drawn from the bell -see highlighted below:

Then had ago at driving the CV star off the shaft at both ends - no luck. Decided to stop and find out which end is actually removable before I damage it.

So the question - Which end(CV) of a D3 front drive shaft is meant to come of the shaft - inner CV or outer CV?

Thanks!

Brute force. the shafts are held into the CV joints by a Circlip Brute force and the shaft will come out.

Issue diagnosed after sleep and a rethink.

Think I have aftermarket drive shafts. This thread https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic54694.html shows the inner CV should look like this:

And have the roller design like this:

My Inner CV looks like below and has a ball style CV rather than rollers. Note no flutes on the outside of the CV.

Ball style joint rather than roller style:

As my inner CV has the slots in the CV bell peened to stop removal I'm going to try and remove the shaft from the outer CV.
