Paddington,
I get a grumbling noise when taking my foot off the throttle and I'm assuming it's the front diff. I'm in the Stockbridge area and I see you're in Southampton, may I ask where? I'm looking to do mine but I'm hoping it's "just" the pinion side bearing that's fubared as in Nodge's original post.

Paddington,
When you say both bearings, do you mean the crown side and the pinion side outer bearings? No inner stuff? It's just I noticed you got a full bearing set from A/F.

I brought a kit from A/F thinking of doing all the bearings but it was just the near side and off side bearings that were gone ( drive shaft ends)

Does this outer axle oil seal, have to be flush with the housing? (as shown above) or does it keep going until it "hits home" and wont move any further?

I tapped it in and it's settled about 2 mm below the housing edge.

So is there a definitive part number list for these bearings and seals?

Unless I’m mistaken has the metric/imperial bit been sorted ???

Thanks

Mine are the same. Slightly below surface. They aren’t leaking so fingers crossed. Lol.

Found this info incase it’s useful to anyone

https://qfq0mw.dm.files.1drv.com/y4mwqrusH...amp;psid=1

The pinion shaft is mounted on two opposed taper roller bearings with a collapsable spacer located between them. The spacer is used to hold the bearings in alignment and also collapses under the pressure applied to the pinion nut. This allows the nut to be tightened to a predetermined torque, which collapses the spacer, setting the correct bearing preload.

Hi All
Wondering if anyone can share any advice...i have replaced all bearings bar the pinion shaft and shims with no problems...diff is back on car with drivers side (new) shaft and joints all fitted...this 'popped' in nicely...my problem is i just CANNOT get the passenger side driveshaft to full seat into diff..i ahve hit it,sworn at it,twisted, pulled, removed circlip, shurnk circlip but still no luck..i cant even get the old shaft to fit!!
What could possibly be causing this?Seems strange that the rhs fitte dwith no issues?
Please help i am going insane!!!

Probably not the issue, just my first thought. Have you compaired the splines on the driveshafts? The auto and manual driveshafts got different spline between the driveshaft and outer CV joint. Since the auto and manual differential also is different from each other, maybe the spline into the differential is different. If you got the wrong type new driveshaft and tried to hard fitting it, maybe the spline had a beating. And the old driveshaft therefore wouldn't fit either.
