Front Lower Suspension Arms |
|
Hi all.
My front lower suspension arms need replacing (getting a clonking noise when going over sleeping policemen/holes in the road).
What price should I be paying to have these done by Land Rover or Indy?
Many thanks. MG

I would suggest sourcing the parts yourself (buy the whole arms with the bushes fitted) and get a local indy to fit them if you're not confident doing them yourself.
I'd suggest buying a bolt kit as more than likely they will need to be cut off. If its done at an indy it will save you money on labour asking them just to cut out the old bolts.
Bare in mind the vehicle will need to be fully tracked once complete, recommend finding somewhere with a Hunter alignment system, Google it and it will tell you your local place with a hunter kit. I think the arms are about £70 ish per side, that's a guess as I can't be arsed checking 😂
Then a few hours labour
Then the allignment
Mine need doing now, I did them twice on my last D4, and now my new one needs them, tryi g to get them under warranty, as I only bought the car in Jan and it was in having an accident repair for 2 months.. 🙄
Look for the arms on Advance Factors and find the latest forum discount code. 👍 Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Cheers for that.
I will check out what the local indy will do for me.
Been quoted £900 by LR.
What have other people been charged?
Cheers. MG

Not an endorsement, but Kmotors show an all in price of £310 per side, including VAT and free alignment. Chris

From what I remember most places will allow around two hours per side for labour as they may need to cut the bolts off. With replacement arms then it's simply bolting them back on with new bolts, then alignment.
When mine were done on my LHD D3 in Finland the bolts came undone really easily and I then had new (powerflex) bushes inserted as the arms were pretty much new, mainly due to the car only having done 18k miles in 7 years (all of that in the desert so no rust).
£310 per side sounds like a good price! Full kit with bolts is between £220 and £300 from Advanced Factors so £110 - £150 per side... I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

700 odd pound was the cost of having new one of mine last year from a local lr spesh,
if you had a press and the right press tools to push them out and did it your self you could get some savings,
but to have them done for you the time/cost in a lr specialist to do the job would likely be similar or more than fitting new arms hence why its often done that way most often its a chuck away world

Thanks for your reply, understand that new replacements maybe the way to go, especially as my Disco 4 has already covered 140,000 miles.
Have already found Meyle HD Lower Arms on the AF website saving over £220 against a recent qoute so that looks the way to go.
Cheers

Just bear in mind most places will not fit parts supplied by the owner..

Thanks Flack
Understand but still worth a try as total quote for both rear and front suspension work is over £1,600 so will search all options to try and reduce costs.
Regards
