front oil seal placement

Just about to do my second belt at 14 years/122K, and will change the oil pump this time. Flack's useful guide says the oil seal should be 1mm proud of the casing, but other references say 1mm recessed in the casing, which I understand is where the official LR tool leaves it. Guidance please.
