Front passenger door rattle - how do I remove the trim?

Hi,

I hear a rattle in the front passenger door when driving over tracks or pot holed proper roads. If I press just above the speaker, I think I can produce the same noise. So I thought I would take a look behind the trim. Any idea how to remove it? I can see a screw behind the door handle, and 2 holding the pocket in place. What else has to be removed? I was wondering about the speaker, and the electric window switch plate? Is it the case that the trim panel just pulls away, like in the Disco 1, or is it held in place in some other way?

Unfortunately my car is now out of warranty, and I understand it will be a while yet before Haynes produces a workshop manual.

Any advice gratefully received as usual. Does any other publisher produce a workshop manual?

Cheers, Rob

Hi Rob,

Just for information - you can actually get onto the LR GTR site for a modest fee to look at all the workshop instruction manuals. I think it was £12 for 24hours access when I did it.

I'll have a look to see if I have the Door-trim removeal manual. PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you if I have.

EDIT - Yup I got it

Regards,

DN

Hi,

I removed the trim over the weekend and found a light grey connector above the speaker hanging loose. Nearby there are a couple of holes, so may be there is supposed to be a clip securing it in place. Stuck the connector with Duck tape to the door frame, along with a couple of other bits of cable that might flap around, put the door trim back, and the rattle has gone. Very Happy

The most difficult part of getting the trim off was removing the top cover of the door handle in order to expose the 4 screws holding the trim in place within the handle. A real pain trying to release the lugs through the rectangular holes on the underside of the handle, not knowing what direction to push the screwdriver to release them. It turns out that they have to be pushed away from the door. Released eventually but snapped off the corresponding parts to the lugs on the door handle, but managed to superglue them back on.

Many thanks to DN and Simon once again for their help.

Cheers,

Rob
