I run 255/60/18 in summer and (I don't remember exactly right now) 235/60/18 in winter.
The consumption is a little bit "smaller" on 235 size. I think that those sizes are ok as a I checked how much kilometers I made on a fully tanked car and it was similar to computer values.
BTW. we have a joke in Poland

you are right barti from the 17's on 235s Grabbers and 520+ mile per tank it went down to around 400 on 255 Duratracs but would not change them as they rule

Drove back to Geneva from les deux alpes, kept the cruise control to 70mph and managed 36mpg.
although I did get some help from the desent at the start was reading 80mpg at one point!!

have just driven down the mountain and at one point it was showing 889mpg!!!!

I can manage to get 33mpg on highway, but in the city I suffer at 18-19mpg.....That's hard here in Norway where it costs 1.35£ for diesel.
