I work on:

28mpg cruising at ~75mph
30 - 32mpg crusing at 60mph
28mpg on A roads
18mpg urban or short cold local trips

Bit less when cold, bit more when hot. All figure reality, not fantasy/trip comp, plus after a fair number of such trips rather than one offs.

Strangely the D4 is getting virtually identical mpg cf the D3 on the same trips.

D4 - 8 speed 317.27 gallons over 7,691 mile = 24.2 mpg

D3 - 6 speed manual 3200.84 gallons over 81,716 miles = 25.5 mpg

D3 was chipped by Pete Bell of BAS - both were/are driven fast, but not hard - lots of anticipation, no excessive braking. I get over 50k mile to a set of 4 GG ATs.

Oil changes at half LR recommended intervals, and generally obsessive maintenance.

They just make the best of everything they have.

That D3 was a dog - it could hardly get out of its own way. The altitude and weight did it no favours and the 2 air filters a day was akin to a drug habit.

It was my own D3 that was a most comfortable ride at 300mph+.
