Fuel system return line popping off |
|
Hi Guys,
Can anyone let me know where I can find the disco 3 fuel system diagrams? I am having a problem with my return line popping off when I apply the revs. I took it to 3 different mechanics including LR who diagnosed it as 3 injectors failed, I then took it to an injector specialist who said all the injectors was fine, however there was a crack on the fuel cooler which I replaced, he also replaced the fuel return lines. This solved the return line popping problem for couple days but now the return line is popping off again. I was reading somewhere that if the fuel filter is not placed on correctly or not vented it can cause a pressure build-up in the system (fuel filter was replaced couple months ago and not sure if the guy vented it off properly). I also read that it could be the seal on the infector (Not the injector) that is gone and this would cause excess pressure on the return line.
At present I am lost and I was hoping to find the fuel system diagram somewhere so that I can probably find a solution. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I recently had this on a RRS and I had changed the fuel filter, I bled it and got the car started and it was fine.
But on his way home it blew one of the pipes off the injector, number 2 injector on the drivers side. I checked it all out put the pipe back on and he drove it around and all seemed fine. So off he went again.. and 5 mins later it did the same. i then placed some wire around the pipe and he drove it home 20 miles no problem.
But the next morning he broke down again and this time it would not start and no matter what i tried it would not go, I bled it for ages, checked it all out even with my FM, no faults logged.
Anyway after spending a couple of hours trying to start it I did manage to get it going but it would not rev for the first minute no response from the throttle, but slowly it came back to life and then ran as smooth as a sowing machine and has done ever since.
I could not say what fixed it because I did not find anything wrong, I can only think it was some dirt in the system and it finally cleared it and pushed it through to the filter .

Thanks for the replies so far guys, it is a big help, I am considering a fuel system clean by my local dealer if it might be dirt.
If you are facing the car from the bonnet it’s the first one on the left.

Fuel system return line popping off |
|
Hey StaffsNick,
Thanks for the links, I was briefly looking at the PDF and I'm thinking it might be the PCV (Pressure Control Valve) that needs adjusting. I was reading that it regulates the amount of fuel pressure in the fuel rail and is controlled by the ECM. So my conning plan is to ask my local mechanic to see if he can reset or adjust the fuel pressure or see if anything looks abnormal with the system pressure. Ill keep you all informed.

If you get the pipes around the wrong way on the filter this will happen on the early models

Had the same problem a couple of years ago.
The single pipe from the "T" piece at the front of the engine which goes down to a connector in front of the oil filter had kinked which created back pressure and blew a couple of the fittings complete with the leak off pipes attached, out of two injector bodies.
Another thing that is important to remember is that the leak off fittings wire spring retaining clip must be fitted the right way round otherwise it will not hold the fitting securely in place.
I replaced my leak off fittings with metal-far better than the plastic originals and fitted new braided pipes which I secured with wire ties.
TIP:
To remove and refit the wire retaining "U" clips, use a pair of locking bent nose forceps which are available from Fishing Tackle shops and to be on the safe side get a couple of spare clips to hand..they are easily lost in the bowels of the engine if you are unfortunate to drop them Relocated to Mid France from N. Experienced the same this weekend, middle leak off hose popped off on the LH middle injector.
Got it back in plasce with tie rap on, all fine.
drove a few km more, and then lots off alarms, special programs off, F in the display.
Stopped the car, and same hose , just the other popped off the rear injector LH side.
After that, the car wouldnt start.
Managed to get some help, and fitted a new hose.
Engine started, but run like an old 2 cylinder boat engine.
But now, it seems like its leaking diesel from the plastic nozzle part, secured with the metal clip.
Small drops off fluid coming out.
And 4 injector balance are out off limit, like around 600 on the Nanocom.
So I`ll imagine its to high pressure on the leak line?
changed the diesel filter in august, if i managed to connect filter hoses wrong, shouldnt this happened earlier if so was?

Same issue myself past week or so, the pipe on mine is front left when looking at engine
Changed pipe as it looked bad, changed fuel filter for good measure
Does anyone know what part number the return valve is?
Do i need to drop the tank to get to it?
