You’re all amateurs at this depreciation game; try buying a brand new high spec FFRR and add 35,000 miles pa to it, then you’ll know the true meaning of depreciation!

Absolutely.
My SDV8 FFRR had lost more than 50% of its list price when I bought it at 20,500 miles and 2.5 years old.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I’m enjoying the ride, just a shame it’s such an expensive one
Makes a mockery of the depreciation column in Whatcar magazine though Discovery 4 HSE

Some finance companies could wince when d4s come to term and owners who are within mileage quota choose to hand back the keys.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

It’s their problem, they’re big boys. Arguably, the consumer has the least amount of information on the future value of their vehicle while financing (and insurance) companies have the most.

I’m going it the dealer tomorrow, to talk Defenders! It could be quite a short conversation based on the trade in value of my D4 on the configurator! If it’s as bad as they say, then I’m keeping it another year at least.

Makes you wonder if they’ll offer low interest deals to encourage punters to refinance, rather than have the hassle of moving them on at a potential loss.
Would be most unusual on 3 and 4 year old cars, but might be cheaper in the long run.Discovery 4 HSE

I don’t think this is limited to just Land Rover vehicles. BMW and Audi appear to be in the same boat.012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

On the other hand, JLR (and most other manufacturers) are offering much bigger discounts now than 3 or 4 years ago AIUI

I think the car game is starting to struggle, was reading only yesterday about some BMW main dealers having no work at all and this was ntoi just the one workshop, others JLR for example were saying they were flat out.

I really like the new defender. But I struggle to see where it’s “better” than a run out D4, especially when the cost is taken into account. It’s the new next best thing which I get, and yes, I would like one.
If I couldn’t afford one, I would just keep the D4 or buy a run out D4 for a significant saving over a defender. I think there is a lot of pain in store for owners over the next few years as the growing pains for electric cars and consumer habits are changing.
For me, I’m going to keep my D4 going for as long as possible, to reduce my exposure to depreciation on a new motor during this period of change in the motoring world.
Some people don’t car are depreciation, and that’s great as it drives forwards the new vehicles and the availability of second hand vehicles for everyone else

Rob I agree with you and I too I’m going to keep my D4 going for as long as sensible.
My concerns are that I don't want to buy a car which has compulsory speed limitation which will be introduced from 2022, and presumably on many cars delivered prior to 2022.

My choice of vehicles seems to revolve around low depreciating vehicles.
Unfortunately, any savings are outweighed by the number of vehicles we have (4)

You can’t beat bangernomics. My old banger costs me square root of naff all to run and doesn’t mind be busing her, like 3 years between oil changes. Mind you she only does between 2k and 4k a year.
