G4 Roof Tent / Side Awnings ,,,, Ideas Please |
|
Have just spent a few hours, looking at various ways people have done this, inc Penguin's pictures etc
Have swapped the G4 Sport for a 08 G4 D3, and looking at way of fitting the Maggiolina roof tent i have, along with a side awning,,
The Roof tent will fit, without taking the side rails off, and give some storage underneath as well if left on !!
The awning i have already, off the 110 is too long at 3m, so need one at about 2-2.2m to fit the side,,
Has anyone fitted one, that works well ???

Hi, new to the forum having lurked for a number of months!
Have you thought about an Oz tent as an awning? I have attached awning rail to the lid of my maggiolina and attached an Oz tent caravan connector to this. I then attach the OZtent to the maggiolina which gives me a substantial awning area and some enclosed tent space. It also means that if it rains I can get out of the maggiolina without getting soaked!
If you are interested I will see if I can find some photos.
Cheers
Andy

TJ101 I have 2 x awnings fitted @ 2.5 m long on the expo
RR, and has worked fine for me. You can look in my gallery to see
the brackets I made to mount it. They are mounted below the top
RR rail, level with the rear door edge and protrude to the start of
the windscreen @ the roof. D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.

Thanks for the welcome ELD70.
Not sure whether I am allowed a disco3.co.uk sticker, I am diffbender owner not a disco3 owner!
Not difficult to spot though, being a green 130 station wagon with a white maggot liner roof tent on the top!
Will keep an eye out for you in the wilds of Romford though!
TJ101, will dig out some photos and see if I can work out how to post them!

TJ,
They are Howling Moon Ali Awn, not the Safari Awn
all the legs etc are contained the the housing, and is easy to erect .
If you were to convert it into a tent as I did, the back wall section is
not a stock item, it would have to be made to suit. I don't think the
awning was ever designed to be a tent, but it did suit my purpose.
As there main line is tents, roof tents and trailer tents. I must say
I had to go through the agent to get the rear wall sets made, me
being in Johannesburg and the manufacturer in Durban, I was
sorted in a week . In hind site, there are some things
I would like to change, but all in all I am a happy chappy, still
a 3 M one would suit me better. D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.
