Garage repair issues - Advice needed
Had a job done in a garage as one of those i was not able to do myself. Brake pedal going hard intermitanley .vac pump was changed told did not resolve it not the main problem and new servo fitted. It was a price job when they could fit it in. Told everything was ok on the saturday garage owner had tested it.
Saturday / Sunday having a few problems starting it. intermittent problems decided to die outside the carry out manage to get it home. I thought ok teething issue key i'll have a look . Let the owner know first thing that there was an issue> Never got back to us. So i had a look at it found blown fuse did not resolve. Chasing the wiring found what looked like the problem broken red wire beside the starter . I started looking at the job and found.
The garage have taken a short cut in doing the vac pump. they have cut the bulkhead next to the servo and vac pump for access and bent it back. With the engine covers in place you can't see it
Will post pics once i work out .I ve contacted the owner by txt with pictures of this as i'm fuming about it had no replay as of yet.
So i have disco sitting dead on the drive with a cut bulkhead and mot due in a few weeks Has anyone any advice what my rights are ? What can be done?

That will be hard to prove they did it so if you can see clean new cut metal then take a photo to prove it's freshly done and be prepared for a battle as it could go either way but try and approach the owner with a friendly manner to start Discovery 3 se gone

Would this not be classed as structual failure on a mot as it's next to stress points. It's been bent cut and bent back badly to into place leaving a big gap very hard to get a pic from the other side. Not had a reply back to my txt this afternoon.

My advice for what it is worth, Don't bother texting him, if they do that sort of work he will just say he never got them. I would have the vehicle independently inspected, THEN go and see him and give them one chance to put things right. Unfortunately if this ends up in court he must have been given a chance to rectify his "work".
I feel your pain,
Good luck

I've spoken to the local mot place "national chain" about this and the 2 testers would class it as structural. Will need to be seam welded as i thought. They said it had well been botched.

Update Garage got back to me and admitted they had done it in txt as they miss quoted for the job originally is the just of it. They had not realised how big it was. done that instead of taking the body off. They offered to repair it by taking the body off at my cost to weld it. Not happening as i did not damage it. well fuming Gave them one last chance by asking how they want to resolve the issue. Any one got any good advice? next steps.

You need written evidence of what the MOT Testers are saying as at the moment it is their opinion. When you have that I would send this evidence together with a letter of intent (even better a solicitors letter) to the company stating that the vehicle should be "made good" by them at their expense and put a time frame on it. If they will not play ball you are not left with much choice other than to get the work done yourself and the take them to the small claims court.
Good luck

That’s a right mess, at least you have it in writing or text that it’s their handy work. You probably need a report from an automotive engineer as to what kind of repair is needed/acceptable. Unfortunately you might finally end up in court over this so make sure you get everything in writing.

Looks like i am having to get it repaired properly somewhere else.
Even repaired properly it will devalue it. Do not trust them to do it.
Had some advice from cab Need to go down the legal route with a formal letter. Has anyone had to go through this what are your experiences?
Where would you recommend in the midlands to fix correctly? Some people live in the fast lane I seem to live in oncoming traffic.

If you're a member of AA or RAC ask them for advice. You're going to need to get an independent report detailing the issue, suspected cause, rectification required etc. if you have any hope of taking this down a legal route. An experts report will be vital to support your claim because without one, it'll turn into a "he said, you said" bun fight.
I also think the advice given to allow the first garage the option to put right what they've done wrong is correct.
Good luck with it.Mods:
