Hi all, how difficult a job is it to swap out an automatic gearbox on an 05 Discovery 3? I have access to a fully furnished garage and I am reasonably apt at the oily bits. Never swapped an auto box before though. Any tips etc? Things to do while in there that may save headaches in the future.
Cheers

Starter out
TC bolts are a bit fiddly
Crossmember bolts are usually seized
Top transfer box bolts are fiddly
Crossover brackets are fiddly
Oil cooler pipes are becoming quite corroded, and may leak after being disturbed
And the gearbox is a heavy lump. 125kg I recall... My D3 Build Thread

Thanks Mikey, I am hoping to find a recon box, where would be the best place to buy one? Also, do you know of somewhere that would sell the kit to alter the cooling system for the ATF fluid? I would be just as well doing that while I’m in there.
Is there any diagnostic work after new box fitted?
Cheers
