Gearbox Flush Question

Hi All, I’m considering getting a gearbox flush on my 2007 D3 Auto, what’s the general view towards changing the gearbox oil filter? It feels logical to replace at the same time, however the majority of posts I’ve read seem to suggest most people just have a gearbox flush with no filter change.

Can anyone advise the best route to take?

Gearbox filter is a bit of a misnomer - it's more like a strainer as its fairly course.

The one that came out of mine was pretty clean - though it had been flushed about 60k before

Not sure if you can see into the filter very clearly here.

But if the wiring loom is leaking, then a filter change is pretty much inevitable.

But if just having a flush, then don't waste your money.

The filters are paper and so fine filtering although they don't get clogged.

They are a pain to change and then can end up with a leaky gearbox which is why many avoid changing them.

Are you sure Pete? I’m sure mine was a pretty course when it came out. Didn’t think it was paper but I guess it might have been.
