Gearbox oil cooler pipes - how hard to replace

Slightly paranoid re my oil cooler pipes for the gearbox after the upper cooler joint leaked 2 liters of oil. Shocked

So question is, how hard are these to replace, doubtless fiddly as they wiggle from auto box to cooler, but how much oil am I likely to loose from the box itself, all of it? Can you get to the gearbox unions ok?

I am sure someone has done this before and can help, thanks

Yeah the gearbox connections are ok.

You just undo 1 bolt, this loosens a plate and the pipes just pull out.

There are O rings (which are quite pricy on ebay). Let me know if you find a reasonable source Thumbs Up

Jack up on the passenger side and no oil leaks out surprisingly.
So you just need to consider what is in the pipes and cooler. (1 litre should cover it)

The fiddly bit will be at the bottom of the rad, in the passenger wheel arch.
It's a rats nest of pipes

Not much fun to replace. Just make sure they rerun the correct route.

I expect you will loose less an a litre of oil between the pipes/cooler

I noticed when I had my top oil cooler pipe off the oil does very slowly drop back down into the hoses, so maybe drop the top oil cooler hose off the night before?

You shall post the picture, it might be just the ring is loosen, need to tighten, it's good quality hose, mine is 212000 kms, never replace it and yes it was leaking so I replace the hose metal seal ring

Thanks the seal part number. Very grateful Thumbs Up

One thing I remembered is that I think the pipes have a bracket at the front/side of the engine.

They bolt to the upper sump.

A 3/8 UJ (universal joint) is very useful to undo it as the compressor is in the way.

or a 13mm UJ I think.

Decent make required as its tight.

I guess it would be sensible to ensure you can get this loose as step No.1

Dai-Disco3, how'd it go? Did you need to drop the driveshaft to get the pipes out?
