Gearbox powerflush - Suffolk or John O'Groats? |
|
Hello All - my first post on here!
My MY14 D4 has now completed 50k miles and I am keen to change the gearbox oil as the gear shift is loosing its silky smooth change.
I live on the north coast of Scotland, 6 miles from John O'Groats. As you can imagine, there is not a wide choice of companies up here who can provide a power flush!
I can get to Inverness (5 hours return) so if anyone knows of a company in that area could you let me know? I am not hopeful having Googled for companies...
If there is no option in the North Highlands then my other option is Suffolk (Ipswich area). We will head south in November to see family so I can use that time to travel locally to have the gearbox flushed. Are there any companies or mobile mechanics in that area??
No doubt there will be loads of companies we would pass on our drive south but as we do the trip in one go (13 hours) we wont be able to stop to have the car sorted.
Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Disco Mikey in Dundee might be your best bet but I appreciate it's a lot further than Inverness. You could also try Geoff as mentioned (but he's in Kent) or Bodsy (I think he's in West Midlands).
Unfortunately Ipswich isn't exactly a Mecca for the type of work you're looking for either 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Yours is 2014 model year, so its 8 speed which limits choice. There is a different technique to flushing the 8 speed transmission because of an internal thermostat that is not present on the 6 speed. If you can persuade Geoff. then he now has the ability I believe.
You might be better off diy - a normal and regular oil change as per Robbies guide?
Ive done this on my 8 speed a couple of times, and its on 82k now, and still silky smooooth. 8)

Thanks for the advice. Who is Geoff and which is his company? I will see if he can help but if not, I will try the manual flush.
Cheers

If you are travelling that far South, you could stop in at a few places that are capable of flushing the 8 speed, most notably Joe @ JAS Land Rovers in York, or Tim @ Alltrack 4x4 near Worcester My D3 Build Thread

Thanks for the ideas but we make the 750 mile trip in one jump so there is no time to stop off anywhere on the way. I also understand that the drain and flush takes a few hours and as the journey already takes 13 hours or so it just isn't feasible. I know it's our own fault for living so far away from anywhere but I had hoped that being in civilisation for a week would make it easier to get the gearbox flushed! Thanks for the advice though- it's appreciated.

Have you tried Hamish at Inverness 4x4, Seafield Rd or David at Parks, Harbour Rd?
