Tailgate strut D3 55 plate

Hi all - am new to the Forum.

My nut has fallen off as heard a clatter down the pillar on the Right hand side.
Have found the ball bolt though - same thread damage but hole in pillar is not damaged.

Anyone know how expensive the job will be to cut, replace, weld plate at a LR dealer?

Currently using a bit of wood as a prop but my wife is not too impressed!

Thanks

If you remove the right rear cluster, there is a small hole which gives access right up to the bolt hole, get a nut and spot weld it to a repair washer and a long piece of wire. You can then carefully enlarge the hole to take the nut and slot it to allow the washer to pass through then feed it up to the bolt hole, using a smaller repair washer on the outside (original bolt) attach it on using thread lock, I left the long wire attached and pushed up inside so it didn't rattle. Cost + pennies, time? probably less than an hour (nut/washer//wire was pre done). Its still in place to this day after 5 years, my BinLaw got the car after me and my niece now has it.

It really was that easy Thumbs Up

ps - Welcome! Very Happy

Many thanks. I used part of your method. I created a 25mm hole half way down pillar (will use a 25mm blind gromet to fill). Used the coat hanger technique by lock tightening together a sandwich of an M8 nut and lock washer with paper to help stick together and then glued and bent round coat hanger wire to it too. Left the sandwich and coat hanger over night to dry. Pushed through new access hole i created and screwed original ball bolt into washer then nut in thst order when lined up. Will use bolt cutter to snip coat hanger wire tommorrow. I did make sure I used Bosch holesaw kit from Screwfix and made sure pilot hole was okay before creating the 25mm hole. I also made sure I taped the boot seal back so the drill did not churn it up as it was slightly in tbe way. With a blind grommet it will look fine and integrity of the D pillar not compromised. Thanks again all of you who posted the coat hanger technique.
