What goes ‘clunk’ in the night

Ok, shamelessly going for the peri-Halloween question.

But,issue I have is a ‘clunk’ ‘bump’, and now ‘squeek’, from somewhere.

Mostly noticed it when doing a 180+ turn, to the left, from taking off/starting the car.

About 180 degrees+, there would be a ‘clunk’ and then a few ‘bumps’, then after a few hundred meters, all ok.

Occasionally , starting from cold, and in a straight line, would feel as if gong over cats eyes from front left,

Now, the hard turn start is resulting in the ‘clunk’ then ‘bumps’, as if cats eyes or pot holes! For a few couple hundred meters or so, when driving straight.

Then this evening, there was a speed related ‘sqeek’, ‘squeek’, ‘squeek’ from the front left that seemed a ‘squeek” on each rotation of the wheel. No ‘bump’ but a definite ‘squeek’ noise’.

Any ideas?

Kind regards,,

Andy

Wow! that's an interesting description, if there was a Nobel prize for same you'd have my nomination Laughing
Sounds like either partially collapsed wheel bearing, and or worn CV joint as well. Should be easy enough to sort out with that amount of racket!

Thanks!

I put some thought into it ..... honest Very Happy

I was thinking wheel bearing, but a friend suggested inner cv joint; apparently inner because it’s intermittant and not continuous.

So you’ve kind of reinforced where we were thinking.

I'd say NOT partially collapsed wheel bearing... had one on my D1 and it certainly wasn't intermittent. Had to drive 1/2 mile to the garage to get it sorted and was convinced, based on the noise, the wheel was dropping off.
