Good price for new compressor? |
|
Guys,
Just a quick opinion on the above please. Just been for the 4th year service and the compressor needs changing. Been getting the odd slow rise message and came back from 2 week hols to find it down on the stops - came up again though!
Quoted 500Euro (450GBP today) to change it by main dealer. Is that similar to UK price as I could maybe import one if its much different.
Thanks in advance TDV6 HSE AUTO

Hi. First of all, are you sure that is it really the compressor what it fails? Are you sure there are'nt one or more baloons, valves, etc., leaking.
That could cause your D3 to go down to the stops, and from there, the compressor has to inflate the air reservoir and then the baloons (possible slow rise message then)...
Mine had leakings in the 4 baloons, and had to change them. Also had to change a valve placed rear the front bumper...
No more suspension failures since then...

Good question Dimet.
All I know is that the dealer did the diagnostics today and said it was the compressor. They should have realised if it was something else shouldnt they?
Nick, any chance of reserving one until lunchtime tomorrow please? I will call the dealer and then call you? And the 2009/10 satnav disc at the same time I think (you just sent a new lock for the back hatch to my buddy here and he said you have some in stock)

I think dimet has a point - if it's on the bump stops after two weeks of not being driven, then (assuming it wasn't when you left it!) I'd be looking for a leak before I rushed to change the compressor. Sure it's possible the compressor is knackered too (perhaps from the extra work coping with the leaks...?) and there may be a fault code for that, but you need to check the cause, not just let them treat symptoms.

Thats very true Martin. When I first mentioned the problem to the dealer I asked how much a compressor would be and he said dont worry about that cos its more likely to be a leak. Now hes seen the car and blames the compressor then I'm inclined to believe him - but as you say it could be effect and not cause...
I left the car at normal road height and when I came back it was down on the stops... does the compressor leak too when its knackered? This is a bit confusing especially now LandRover Grenoble is closed and the nearest dealer is almost an hour away... TDV6 HSE AUTO

Leak could be in the compressor as it has a few attached valves and switches. So maybe a leak in the compressor so new one need to fix leak? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
