Goodbye
Selling my gorgeous Disco this weekend. It's time to say goodbye.... He has served me well, never let me down, and carried my grandchildren safely for 30,000 miles. I've loved him, but sadly he is costing me too much in tax, and diesel, and at 27mpg, I need more form my vehicle. Now he is out of warranty, I'm frightened of the bills if he starts to go wrong!
Goodbye fair Discovery, and thank you for being sooooooooooo great!
PS, I've been offered a very, very fair price against a new VW Tiguan for him!!! If you never try, you'll never know...

Farewell........
You will certainly notice the difference on fuel economy. Tuguan is not a favourite of mine personally, but will have the undoubted reliability and economy you want.
Good luck & if you feel tempted by the D4, don't forget to come back aboard Bodsys Brake Bible

You mean fair price as in them saying "Here's the keys for your new Tiguan and oh! here's a wad of cash to make up the difference"

It's gone now, and I'm gutted, however, driving back from the VW dealer, the fuel consumtion was showing 42mpg around town... Having driven past a garage with diesel at £1.19 per litre, that made me smile... Plus, the tax was only £175, instead of +400!!! And it needs servicing only every 2 years or so, with the Disco needing a major service costing in excess of £500, I also smiled at that... Now, truth be told, if I win LOTTO, I will have another Disco.........
Bye all, logging off for good now, can't stand seeing the permagrin........................... If you never try, you'll never know...

Nearly a month into my new Tiguan, it costs half the price at the pumps, but I really do regret selling my Disco 3..... I wonder if anybody is, as I write, driving it around with the permagrin....
I don't think my love affair with Disco is over! If you never try, you'll never know...

I have a spreadsheet I put together to make a decision around owning the D3. Ultimately few alternatives make sense for me, despite nearly 30,000 miles a year. The closest is chopping in my 2-year-old D3 for a Freelander but I know I'll miss the auto box (auto FL2 is not much better than D3 for MPG), the room and the V(6)room.
It's complicated in my case by the fact that if I go too small on the car, we'll have to change Mrs Do$h's car as it's a 90 pickup and we'd need her car to be more practical. That adds to the cost of me downsizing.
Still not 100% decided - I'm waiting for Q3 offers/pricing to be released on FL2 before I make a call, but I suspect D3 ownership will be the answer for a long time yet. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
I have a spreadsheet I put together to make a decision around owning the D3.:
Snap! I closely analysed the options for replacing my D1, and the answer came out clearly as FL2. That clearly that I'd been taking test-drives and chasing dealers for deals.
Then I told my daughter. She said, "So you won't be able to collect doors from B&Q for me any more? How will I manage?" That clinched it - it had to be D3! A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. All the best SW. I havent a clue what a VW Tijuana looks like but you're bound to have some pangs of regret if you've swapped down from a D3. My advice is to either hit the bottle hard and dull the pain or take a mad notion and go back to your dealer on bended knee asking forgiveness and your D3 back A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

My spreadsheet shows that my 25k miles per yr D3 costs exactly the same per mile as wifeys A4 2.0tdi - 'cos it costs a fortune in tyres.
But then my spreadsheets are Magic
Oh, and I'd expect a Tiggery-one to be no better than the A4 Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

would be interesting to know what pounds-shilling-and-pence value people place on 'permagrin' in these spreadsheets... Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
