Goodbye

Big Cry

Well after near 7 years of Driving a Disco 3, It was time for a change.

The Options
Land Rover Discovery 4 HSE
BMW X3 (F25) xDrive35d Sport

Well love both cars, so a real problem, I was prepare to pay more for the Land Rover, however the BMW was list price was over £50K (loaded), any way tested both cars, considered the CO2; MPG

so it was down to price, BMW were great salesman knew he had to move on price to get the sale, however Lancaster Reading, seem to not care, 1.5% discount, and 1,500 less on part ex. so I went with BMW

Its been nice driving a Land Rover, but the speed of the BMW (0-60 sub 6 seconds) Tax on BMW £165/year make it a winner.

Did you get a free tow rope, always handy for when you are stuck and a Disco comes past, just in case they don't have one handy Thumbs Up

Don't forget the dress code to get a a Disco to stop, I am sure you will look nice in high heels and short skirt Laughing

Rolling with laughter Good luck with it, makes sense economically Wink

The BM 3ltr twin turbo is a cracking engine, I had a 535D that was remapped as well, 343 bhp surprised a lot of people and in an X3 will be even quicker !

Don't think you can compare the Disco 4 to an X3 though really ! If you wanted the LR I think you should have tried another or more willing dealer.

Yup; I'd have thought it was D4 vs. X5 or freeloader/RR Ewok vs. X3.

A colleague of mine has the BM, and last year in the snow in Scotland it went everywhere our D3 went without too much drama. I never needed to tow it.

Its a smaller car, so much lighter therefore faster and more economical. Its the old heart/head discussion, in your case the head won.

I chopped my 5-series Touring for the D3....got sick of it sitting in the drive...I guess the cheaper option would have been winter tyres, but I decided not to risk it and went the whole hog to be on the safe side.
The D3 was imperious over the weekend. The only time it lost traction was driver error, when I turned off into an uphill side-road slightly too quickly, causing the front to push a little wide Thumbs Up

I forgot to say, yes I got the winter tyres - I am not that stupid, but max speed is reduce to 130mph Crying or Very sad I have to try going round a snow covered bend at 130!! Rolling with laughter

My brother has had the following cars in the snow.

BMW Z4 - took him 4 hours to get home at leaving at 10:30pm; next morning he tried his M6, could not get of the drive Rolling with laughter

BMW X5 - (Summer Tyres) thought he had the same grip as in the summer, luckily not to hit another car

(This year)
BMW 1 Series M Coupe - left it at work, took a vito van home, doesn't use winter tyre, big mistake Rolling with laughter

Other Brother 911 (with winter tyres) no problems

Just sold the Dunlop 4D winter wheels I had on my BMW 520d on eBay the day before the snow came. There were 16 watchers! Someone got a great deal though, 8mm on them (bought mid-October, taken off mid-December because I bought the D4, less than 1000 miles on them).
But the BMW was as sure footed as anything I've driven in the snow we had in December. Stationary starts on steep hills, trying out emergency stops going downhill - no problems.
It's all about the tyres.

Pity the poor horses in the horse box, oops sorry it won't pull a horse box will it.
You've guessed right I'm not a BMW lover ever since one mounted the grass verge and tried to run me down as I was crossing the road.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
