Goodyear Wrangler HP tyres - really run flat?

Has anybody ever had the need to test this claim? Does it work but the tyre is then scrap?

For a low amount of miles, and the tyre is then scrap.

Disco Micky - do you know if these RunonFlat tyres are directly interchangeable with the previous standard versions? - looking to put a set of 4 new Wrangler HP's (255/55 19) on D4 to replace existing ones, but only version stocked anywhere seems to be the runonflat!! Thanks
