Green Traffic Lights!

Just watched a greenie guy on our local TV station complaining that having amber and red lights on at the same time is wasting electric. We have 250 sets of lights and the red / amber combination is on for two seconds every two minutes.

What a tosser!

Having them automatically swich off or go to flashing amber during periods of light traffic (i.e. night-time) would save even more electricity and fuel.

I like the flashing amber system for reasons of improved traffic flow.

Always liked the 'roundabout' outside St.Helier that makes you take turns. Seemed to work really well.

what about abandoning them all together and adopting the "might is right" rule as they do in india. They even turn their headlights off to save electricity !!!

The filter system works extremely well in Guernsey and Jersey, probably due to low speeds and awareness of how the system operates. The trouble is that it only takes one plonker to get it wrong and cause problems.

I tried this a few weeks ago when I arrived at a filter at the same time as a Ford Ka.

I won.

Unfortunately it turned out to be a work colleague. When they complained I told them to get a 'proper' car like a D3!!!

Like all over France - proceed with caution.

Also turn left on red would make traffic move easier like in the US.

That green will probably be suggesting that we should douse all the street lighting and our headlights thus saving leccie and giving a slight MPG improvement.

and at junctions... the amount of people who pull out on me is incredible considering that such a large vehicle is heading towards them.

Scares the crap out of them when you appear up their backside with full xenon blasting away at them (in the vain attempt they will melt).

And then we become nasty, aggressive 4X4 drivers.

We can't win, can we?
