And starvation averted. Found the “buffet car” and got some pork & rice each. Not bad for £1.33 each!

Plus found the soft seat/non AC coaches, all empty as it’s like sauna in there, plus a hard seat carriage, again no AC, like a sauna and empty! Imaging going from Saigon to Hanoi in those.

I’ll stick with the soft seats with AC, much, much nicer.

The first cabin picture looks just like from Harry Potter so as a foreigner I assume this is how all normal U.K. rail looks for the plebs. the second cabin looks like Heathrow express
(Nice picture once again, keep ‘em coming)

Well made it safe and sound to the Iris Hotel, a few hundred metres from the station.
A sight for sore eyes, and numb bum!

Sadly scooters are no longer stopping!!

Nice hotel for £21 including a fantastic breakie, only complaint is the AC decided to stop working through the night and things got a tad sweaty. Off to Hoi An, once SWMBO matches up the bus map with reality. She uttered those magic words “it’s not difficult”, whereby the two iPads got rotated by 180 degrees and she’s now about to curse me.

PS Bus stop is just outside the hotel. Happy days as even though we’re travelling light, 20kg between the 2 of us, it’s not fun lugging the packs around in 30c. I know, nice problem to have but still hot & sweaty.

They say that about the 60s as well, unfortunately I can remember those and was there.
Once out of the cities it really was back to agriculture that hasn’t changed for a loooooooooong time. Very easy to imaging the views of paddy fields with ridges between them with the addition of coloured smoke swirling in the downwash of a Huey performing a dust off. We have our secret code for the Vietnam War, we call it “back in the day”. The only sign I’ve seen of those events “back in the day” was an airport with dozens of hardened shelters, i think it was Tuy Hoa air base, home for the Misty FACS after they moved from Phu Cat & before moving to Nakhon Phanom in Thailand. Now where’s my geek smilie?

Think still am in the 80s, well musically anyway.
Hot & sticky bus ride to Hoi An bus station, a couple of km from the hotel. We were in with a few other tourists, locals and cargo. Baggage heaped up front to help squeeze more peeps in the back.

Pool looks very inviting, looks a cross between a cool, refreshing dip and a maritime disaster, unfortunately we don’t get our room until. ~2:30 so will just have to sit and dream. Or order a beer.

PS Beer is suuuuuuuuuuuperb.

Now should I get my overnight made suit tonight or tomorrow, like TG chaps. Wonder if I could look that suave?

Well been a volume of full on travelling days so early night today. Hotel is great, just a short walk from the old town. And the AC works a treat, so no sweaty nights like last night.
Hoi An is a major tourist destination so a lot more crowded than we’d expected. Where we had lots of Russians in Nha Trang, here it’s more Koreans (assuming from the South) and more than you can shake a stick at. Not that I’d do such a thing. Mind you there is a Korean mini market just up from the hotel which is already proving handy for drinks & stuff.
Couple of pics of the river.

For those with a sweet tooth, banana pancakes with Nutella & choc sauce, lovely.

As am I in the Korean mini mart.
